FOUNDER / MANAGING PARTNER
Alissa Pelatan, Esq. is the founder and partner of AMP AVOCAT, the first French law firm specialized in social business law, known in France as “droit de l’Économie Sociale et Solidaire”. Mrs. Pelatan is a member of the Bar association in California, the District of Columbia and Paris. Passionate about social enterprises law, Mrs. Pelatan assists entrepreneurs in the creation and the managing of their own ESS-labeled enterprises (whether classic or hybrid corporate entity) both in France and internationally. Mrs. Pelatan advises clients on cross-boarder transactions, between the United States and France, or other international transactions; she also counsels clients on questions regarding commercial law, business law, non-profit and cooperatives law.
For a decade now, Mrs. Pelatan has developed technical expertise in social enterprise (social businesses, "entreprises de l’ESS",…), label and certification requests (B-corp, ESS, ESUS, SOSE…). She has worked as corporate legal consultant for a public European company based in Paris, France, as a lawyer for international law firms.
Mrs. Pelatan has experience assisting sponsors, international organizations, investors, and commercial banks with international business law, corporate governance, mergers & acquisitions, and white-collar criminal defense matters as well as major international energy and infrastructure projects in Africa.
In 2004, Mrs. Pelatan received her B.A., cum laude, in Cultural Anthropology & Religious Studies from the University of California, Berkeley. She received her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 2009, where she was the supervising editor for the Hastings International and Comparative Law Review and researcher for the Hastings Refugee & Human Rights Clinic. She also received her LL.M. in European Private Law from the University of Paris II Pantheon-Assas in 2009.
Mrs. Pelatan is a board member of the European Social Enterprise Law Association (ESELA).
She also sits as a member of the "Comité Associations" for the French National Chartered Accountant Association.
In 2017, Mrs. Pelatan was invited to be a member of the Policy Committee of the European Venture Philanthropy Association (EVPA).
Co-founder of The Giving Exchange, a humanitarian organization with the mission to improve the economic and social conditions of underprivileged communities by promoting sustainable initiatives, Mrs. Pelatan has volunteered her services for numerous other non-profits including Amnesty International, Hillsong, Theophile Ministere, Droit d’Urgence, and Parraine Ton Prochain. She assumes presidency for The Giving Exchange France.
Mrs. Pelatan is an adjunct law professor at the Catholic University of Lille, and at the University of Paris Descartes in Paris where she teaches comparative business law, US common law and social business law / corporate social responsibility. She also teaches US law and UK law in two masters programs at one of the most prestigious law school of the country (University of Paris II – Pantheon-Assas). In 2017, she debuted as guest honorary teacher at Sciences Po.
